Um als Künstler:in erfolgreich zu sein, ist eine starke Strategie, wie Artists die Beziehungen zu Fans, Audience und Partner:innen gestalten, eines der grundlegendsten Elemente Deiner Musikkarriere. Die größten Künstler:innen der Welt zeigen, dass der Weg an die Spitze kein Zufall ist, sondern vielmehr Resultat harter Arbeit ist, die eine klare Grundlage, eine strategische Gesamtperspektive und intelligentes Handeln für eine starke Artist Brand erfordert. Im Rahmen des Workshops It’s All About The Brand: Das „How To" zum nachhaltigen Aufbau Deiner Künstler:innenmarke lernen die Teilnehmenden, was eine Markenstrategie für Künstler:innen ist, wie man eine solche Strategie erarbeitet und schließlich zum Leben erweckt.

Der Workshop ist in zwei Teile gegliedert: Im ersten Teil werden zunächst unterschiedlichen Begriffe aus den Bereichen Marke, Identität und Strategie unterschieden, gefolgt von einer Einführung in das Grundkonzept der Markenstrategie für Künstler:innen im Allgemeinen, sowie in die Zielgruppe und die Notwendigkeit eine Strategie zu entwickeln. Zum Abschluss des ersten Teils wird das Artist Brand Canvas (ABC) als praktisches Instrument für die Entwicklung vonMarkenstrategien für Künstler:innen vorgestellt.

Der zweite Teil konzentriert sich auf den Prozess der Entwicklung der Strategie Artist Brand. Teilnehmende werden zunächst mit der internen und externen Situationsanalyse, sowie der SWOT-Analyse vertraut gemacht. Um den Grundstein für den eigentlichen Strategieentwicklungsprozess zu legen, werden die Teilnehmenden in die Konzepte des Golden Circle von Sinek sowie in die Identitätsbasierte Markenführung von Burmann als zugrunde liegende wissenschaftliche Modelle eingeführt. Nach Abschluss der Definition der Identität der Künstler:innenmarke werden Messaging und Story der Brand entwickelt und auf die passenden Brand Touchpoints abgestimmt.

Ivy Teresa aka Yvois is an Aotearoa (New Zealand)-born, Berlin-based producer of warm, wonky beats and singer of moody aural treats. Armed with a collection of dusty guitar pedals, warbling tape machines and a smattering of found sounds, she creates chill electronica and low key grooves in her treetop home studio. She is the founder of Éclat Crew Berlin – a collective of female, trans & non-binary electronic music producers, and an independent music educator and event curator.

In this artist talk with Sam Slater we are curious to talk about experiences in making music in collaboration - for film, games, installations or theatre. What does it mean to make music and sound in resonance with another piece of art or creative work? How do you approach composition and sound design differently in collaboration with different media and productions? Like for example – what are the differences in working for a film or for a game? And what works differently at the different levels of budget and scope? How to approach creative practice and creative strategy in long term projects?

How do you approach collaboration? How do you see collaboration as a creative practice? How much do you see your work as a service or your own artistic work? What are best practices of communication, so that all involved understand each other well?

How do you approach composing and sound design for different productions creatively? What are different work processes?

What would be your recommendations for artists who seek to work for film and games and other productions? Where to start and which skills are important?

There will be space for your questions as well, so do come prepared.

Sam Slater, a two-time Grammy Award-winning composer, sound designer, and music producer, is renowned for creating immersive soundscapes in various mediums such as installations, games, films, and stage productions. Notably, he won multiple Grammy Awards for his roles as score producer and musical sound designer for "Joker" and "Chernobyl." He also received accolades like an SCL Award for 'Outstanding Original Score for Interactive Media' for "Battlefield 2042" and an Icelandic Music Award for 'Producer of the Year.'

Additionally, he scored projects like "Guerrillas" and "The River Between Us" in 2020, and in 2021, he collaborated with Hildur Guðnadóttir on the soundtrack for EA Games' "Battlefield 2042." In 2022, he produced the score for "A Haunting in Venice" and scored the Bohpal gas disaster for the Netflix series "The Railway Men." Slater has released solo records with Iceland’s celebrated label, Bedroom Community and premiered an immersive mixed-media installation called "Vandals" in collaboration with visual artist Theresa Baumgartner at CTM Festival in 2022.

Always aspiring to be versatile and challenged, Slater has showcased his creativity through live performances, both solo and in collaborative projects like OSMIUM, a project focussed on self-built instruments and robotics. He toured a live immersive performance of Chernobyl in 2019. Slater's compositions have been featured in performances by prestigious orchestras like the LA Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. His musical journey began in his teens with record production, followed by studies in Experimental Composition at Leeds University. He started his professional career in Germany, initially collaborating with Johann Johannsson as a principal musical sound designer and creative engineer. Slater consistently engages with the experimental music scene, collaborating with friends and artists such as James Ginzburg, Hildur Gudnadottir, Rully Shabara, and others in Europe and beyond.

Aude Langlois is a sound artist, musician and sound designer from Berlin. She holds a Master's degree in Sound Studies from the Berlin University of the Arts and a degree in Music and Musicology from the Paris-Sorbonne University. Her work can be found in films, documentaries, theatre and music productions. As a performer, she plays the guitar, accordion, analogue drum machine and handcrafted noise machines through granular and delays effects to create experimental sonic textures. As a tutor and academic advisor (UdK Berlin, Catalyst Berlin), she encourages listening as a prime means of learning.

Alongside Belinda Sykora, Aude is active in the Ekheo duo. Together they conduct artistic research into the relationship between the human voice, technology, artificial intelligence and the ethics of sound. They explore these topics through sonic-visual performances, where improvisation and adjusting to the environment play a crucial role.

Aude's contributions to various projects have been showcased at BFI Flare Festival (London), Transmediale Festival (Berlin) Gaité Lyrique (Paris), Signs and Symbols (New York), CTM Festival (Berlin), ACUD Theatre (Berlin), Festival Rio LGBTQIA+ (Rio de Janeiro), Arte (France & Germany), Sky TV (UK), Westflügel (Leipzig), Märkisches Museum (Berlin), Hosek Contemporary, Berlin, 48 hours Neukölln (Berlin), Gallery Barbara Thumm (Berlin), AMRO (Linz), Pop Kultur (Berlin).

Bertram Denzel, born 1969 in Freiburg i.Br., grew upin Spain and France, has been living in Berlin since 1988 as a DJ and musician.

In addition to numerous band engagements, he has been composing film music since the mid-1990s, initially for short films.

The first long film, Hendrik Handloegten's debut film "Paul is Dead", was honored with the Adolf-Grimme-Prize in 2001. Since then, 7 films with Denzel's music have been nominated for the Grimme-Prize, most recently Tukur-Tatort "Wer Am I? "(Director: Bastian Günther).

The autodidact was also nominated for the "Rolf Hans Müller Prize for Film Music 2014" for the score for "Alaska Johannson" (Achim von Borries), and the electronic duo denzel + huhn has so far published 4 recordings, most recently "Brom" (2015) to octaf / compact.

Born in Emsland, he has been working as an audio engineer since 2009 and as a lecturer for audio engineering at the SAE Institute since 2011. Thanks to his passion for computer games, he soon recognized the potential of the GAME SOUND area and specialized in it. This resulted in the founding of Lyrebird Studios in 2014, specializing in game sound, sound design and audio productions for moving images. Lyrebird Studios has developed very quickly and successfully since its inception. This is certainly due to the professionalism and passion of the two founders as well as the growing potential of the GAME sector for the audio sector.
