The Music Pool Berlin Artists Meet Up offers a platform for musicians to share their music projects with a wider musician community, ask for feedback, ideas or support, and get to know each other. You can show a new video, play a new track or song, or perform live (only with little tech setup, like singing, rapping with beats, acoustic instruments ..). You can also mention if you are e.g. looking for a drummer, a producer etc.

Would you like to present something at the Artist Meet Up? We have approx. 8 slots á 10 minutes including feedback and discussion with the audience.

Please write an email to andrea (at) musicpoolberlin (dot) net latest by August 20th, 2018, including a link to your music and some brief info on what and why you'd like to present. The event is open to all artists regardless of genre.

At the end of the presentations, there will be time to meet and talk to each other over a drink and some music. It definitely makes sense to come by also for those who are not presenting.

The moderation will be in English, however, you can present in German, if you feel more comfortable, and we will help you translate.

The aim of this talk is to give practical and honest advice to aspiring composers looking to compose to picture. We will discus the artistic and practical skills needed to be a successful composer and the business knowledge required to acquire and complete jobs professionally.

Based on Ben's experience in the industry we will discuss the following areas

What tools and skills do I need as a composer for commercials?
How does the Market work and how can I get my music used in commercials?
What is music supervision?
What are licences and how do they work?
How do I translate someones ideas or concepts into appropriate music?
Negotiations and fees

Please bring with you examples of your work if you have some and would like some feedback and suggestions.

Thu, 24.08. Festival Organization and Booking - Learning from Roskilde (Music Pool x Pop-Kultur)

Roskilde Festival in Denmark is the largest music festival in Northern Europe, with 130.000 visitors and 180 concerts spanning over the festival week. At the same time, Roskilde operates as a non-profit – and has supported numerous humanitarian, cultural and other non-profit social projects. Quite an unusual combination in the music world, where setting up shows and festivals often times are financially rather precarious endeavours.

At Pop-Kultur, we are happy to get the chance for a public interview with Thomas Sønderby Jepsen, music programmer at Roskilde, to find out more about how Roskilde operates and to see what we can learn from their experiences for our own different festivals, large or small. We'll talk about working with volunteers, sponsors, logistics etc. Also, we will use the chance to learn more about Roskilde's approach to music programming and look forward to get some insights into how artists get to play at festivals at this level and the competitive business in the international big festival circuit.

Many young DJs dream of playing in clubs, living from their DJ gigs and traveling not only through Germany but also around the world. The workshop aims to give a broad introduction to booking tours in Europe and specifically in the German-speaking countries, with a step-by-step guide on:

-how and when to prepare a tour, doing it yourself vs. working with an agency
-where to go and specifics of different kind of venues and promoters
-how to address promoters and venues
-organize transportation, bureaucracy and logistics
-tour promotion and media relations

The workshop is aimed at both artists that have just started out or want to tour in Europe for the first time as well as artists who have already toured a bit, giving (hopefully) valuable new tips, tricks & insights, with a focus on small & mid-sized venues as well as DIY structures and networks.
