The Music Pool Berin Artists Meet Up offers a platform for musicians to share their music projects with a wider musician community, ask for feedback, ideas or support, and get to know each other. For this edition, we welcome a group of Swedish musicians, who are visiting Berlin in August and are looking forward to an exchange with the local musician scenes.

Would you like to present something the Artist Meet Up? We have approx. 8 slots á 10 minutes including feedback and discussion with the public. You can show a new video, play a new track or song, or perform live (only with little tech setup, like singing, rapping with beats, acoustic instruments ..). You can also mention if you are e.g. looking for a drummer, a producer etc. Please write an email to andrea (at) musicpoolberlin (dot) net by the 22nd of August 2017, including a link to your music and some brief info on what and why you'd llike to present. The event is open to all artists regardless of genre.

At the end of the presentations, there will be time to meet and talk to each other over a drink and some music. So definitely it makes sense to come by also for those who are not presenting. This time, you can hang out on the nice large Z/KU terrace outside in beautiful weather, hopefully.

The moderation will be in English, however you can present in German, if you feel more comfortable, and we will help you translate.

Stick around afterwards as DJ Mixanthrope will share torrid tracks from all over the world: from Merengue to Kpalango, from Brazilian Boogie to Thai Pop, from Zouk to Maloya.

Location: Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik (ZKU), Siemensstraße 27, 10551 Berlin - for the first time in Moabit :)

Entry: 7:30 pm

Training Day Programme

During Training Day on the festival Saturday all guests of the Reeperbahn Festival will have the opportunity to breathe the atmosphere of the music world, gain insights into or deepen their knowledge of the current music business at about 25 workshops, coaching sessions and speeches.

The Training Day is aimed at everyone who is looking for access to the music business, or who already has a professional career and want to further qualify and improve. Experts from the sectors live entertainment, recorded music, publishing, marketing and technology will convey realistic and practical insights into their international music business work, also to newcomers. Gordon Raphael (US), producer of The Strokes, for example, will report on his work with this globally successful formation in his discourse “Producing The Strokes or: How I accidentally became the producer of a multi platinum selling album”.

Many young DJs dream of playing in clubs, living from their DJ gigs and traveling not only through Germany but also around the world. After a few years of unsuccessfulness, however, there is a certain disillusionment among many DJs. The bookings do not come in, in the social media hardly anyone shares their mixes or releases. In this workshop, we will discuss the causes and explain all the Do’s & Don’ts as well as established success strategies, that will help you to get into the clubs.

Wed, 28.06 English Workshop - DIY Booking in Germany and Europe

The workshop aims to give a broad introduction to booking tours in Europe and specifically in the German-speaking countries, with a step-by-step guide on:

-how and when to prepare a tour, doing it yourself vs. working with an agency
-where to go and specifics of different kind of venues and promoters
-how to address promoters and venues
-organize transportation, bureaucracy and logistics
-tour promotion and media relations

The workshop is aimed at both artists that have just started out or want to tour in Europe for the first time as well as artists who have already toured a bit, giving (hopefully) valuable new tips, tricks & insights, with a focus on small & mid-sized venues as well as DIY structures and networks.

Mon, 03.04 ENGLISH Workshop - Please Don't Kill Your Records! - promo and release

It's sad to see artists work on their releases for a year or more and then have their work disappear from the media gaze in a matter of weeks, or possibly arrive to absolutely no fan base, no demand and zero media support.
This is a workshop about creative ways of "repackaging" releases and creating promo tools that can extend a record's "media lifespan" from the standard 6-8 weeks to up to year, and possibly beyond. Please Don't Kill Your Records will cover promo and release strategy from the point of view of creating different types of content – both physical and digital – out of a single release, to sustain the needs of music portals and social media for prolonged periods of time. We will look at the benefits of executing a long-term strategy based on real content and discuss ways to create it without a big budget.

Former NYC session musician and MOBY touring bassist Greta Brinkman talks about changes in the industry, what's special about Berlin, and the importance of playing "analog" instruments in a digital age.
Berlin is well known as a EDM capital of the world, it has the largest number (10) of certified ABLETON trainers in Germany, and new technology appears every day. But todays talk is NOT about DAWs, instead we will examine the value of playing an analog instrument, and talk about what music means to you.

Are you making music because you hope to be "discovered" and get famous?
Are you making music because you want to earn a living doing it?
Do you plan to work for other people?
Do you play an analog instrument?
We will talk about these and other questions, and talk about ways to make music your job, without making you start to hate music.

Our fifth Artist Meetup offers a platform for musicians to learn about others’ music projects, and meet each other to find out about possibilities for collaborations.

Eight artists and music makers will present their music, project, band, label, studio etc. to their peers - in order to find other people to join the project, or to get ideas and feedback from fellow musicians. Afterwards everyone will have a chance to chat with each other over a drink (also with those who are not presenting) and perhaps find someone to collaborate with on a project, exchange ideas and contacts, offer services: build a community.
We hope for a great exchange of talent and look forward to seeing the musicians of the city getting together, coming out of their own scenes and opening up perspectives for the future!
