This course will include two basic parts. First you will receive an informational breakdown on what a voiceover is, where they are used, how the business works, and the logistical aspects of recording in a booth vs. recording from home. The second half of the course is designed to give participants a supportive one-on-one and group coaching session; with hands on guidance on how to read scripts as if preparing for an actual audition. At the end of the course, you will leave with a better understanding of how voiceovers continue to make strong impressions on our everyday lives and gain the basic tools to begin practicing the craft itself.

Former NYC session musician and MOBY touring bassist Greta Brinkman talks about changes in the industry, what's special about Berlin, and the importance of playing "analog" instruments in a digital age.
Berlin is well known as a EDM capital of the world, it has the largest number (10) of certified ABLETON trainers in Germany, and new technology appears every day. But todays talk is NOT about DAWs, instead we will examine the value of playing an analog instrument, and talk about what music means to you.

Are you making music because you hope to be "discovered" and get famous?
Are you making music because you want to earn a living doing it?
Do you plan to work for other people?
Do you play an analog instrument?
We will talk about these and other questions, and talk about ways to make music your job, without making you start to hate music.

The workshop aims to give a broad introduction to booking tours in Europe and specifically in the German-speaking countries, with a step-by-step guide on:

how and when to prepare a tour, doing it yourself vs. working with an agency
where to go and specifics of different kind of venues and promoters
how to address promoters and venues
organize transportation, bureaucracy and logistics
tour promotion and media relations

The workshop is aimed at both artists that have just started out or want to tour in Europe for the first time as well as artists who have already toured a bit, giving (hopefully) valuable new tips, tricks & insights, with a focus on small & mid-sized venues as well as DIY structures and networks.

In the spirit of Do-It-Together, the Artist Meetup offers a platform for musicians to learn about others’ music projects, and meet each other to find out about possibilities for collaborations.

For the 2nd time, 8 artists and other music makers will present their project, band, label, studio etc. to their peers - in order to find other people to join the project, or to get ideas and feedback from fellow musicians.

Afterwards everyone will have a chance to chat with each other (also with those who are not presenting) over a drink and perhaps find someone to collaborate with on a project, exchange ideas and contacts, offer services: build a community.

We hope for a great exchange of talent and look forward to seeing the musicians of the city getting together, coming out of their own scenes and opening up perspectives for the future!

There is a party at Renate afterwards. The second Artist Meetup is a satellite event to the Most Wanted: Music conference.

Berlin is full of International Creative people from all over the world.

Creative, productive and innovative people who bring with them: a lot of new ideas, potential and an international atmosphere.

But before those people can succesfully get started, They all have to deal with a hurdle of bureaucratic paperwork, public office visits (Äuslanderbehörde, Tax Office, Insurances..) and uncertanities about their rights and duties as well as with the lack of contacts, networks and places to go.

So this workshop will help all new-Berliners to get succesfully started: from registering with the Bürgeramt (Citizens office), getting a tax number, up to matters of social security, artist insurance (KSK) or for musicians a big question: the collecting agencies vs. creative commons for their musical rights, especially if you are not already a member in your own country, etc.

There are many possibilities for Funding for projects, Tours, Production for Musicians etc.. But exactly is funded? What amount? and what requirements must I fulfill? In this Consulting session, you will be able to ask our funding expert Katja Hermes about your project idea and perhaps what funding body fits best.
Questioning it’s “fundability"? And see where you can make changes to better the application and bring it one step further towards getting the funding you need.
We recommend that to all those who already have concrete ideas about what kind of project they want funded, to bring this with you to the consulting session. If you have general questions about funding possibilities then we recommend our workshop Music Funding in Germany this coming June also with Katja Hermes from Sound Diplomacy.

Wednesday 22.04 Community Evening #14- Moving to Berlin as a musician

What are the first steps that I have to do to get my Berlin life started? What is necessary to be able to work in Germany? What is the Ausländerbehörde ? What are my possibilities concerning getting health insurance? Is it easy to set up a bank account? How can I start a business? Get a tax number? Is there any support if I have a family and kids? As well as where to learn German? etc.

For this Music Pool Community evening #14 we have invited the knowledgeable AWO consultants: Heike Stapel, Katharina Jetzinger and Gundula Daerr of the AWO offices in Neukölln and Friedrichshain/Kreuzberg to discuss the bureaucratic side of things with you. Among many other social services, AWO provides practical advice to migrants moving to Berlin. The AWO consultants will be joined by fellow musicians and cultural workers who moved from different regions in the world, now living and working in Berlin to tell their personal stories. So far confirmed are - JJ Weihl of the band Fenster, the rapper, poet and DJ Black Cracker, our Music Pool colleague and promoter Melissa Perales + some more to be confirmed ...
