Wir freuen uns, erneut in Kooperation mit dem Pop-Kultur Festival einen Community Nachmittag mit Gesprächsrunde zu organisieren:

Wir möchten uns gemeinsam mit euch über die Möglichkeiten austauschen, wie wir als Musik-Communities Infrastrukturen für upcoming Artists organisieren können – gerade angesichts der aktuellen und kommenden Herausforderungen in der Branche.

Durch hohe Mietpreise und gestiegene Grundkosten, sowie auch höhere Gehaltsforderungen von Personal und Künstler:innen, ist es heute schwierig, Live-Shows zu finanzieren. Dies führt dazu, dass die Ticketpreise steigen und in der Regel leisten sich Konzertbesucher:innen „teure" Tickets nur für ihre Lieblingsacts oder besondere Events, denn auch ihr Budget ist begrenzt. Als Folge davon sind Veranstalter:innen und Clubs weniger experimentierfreudig und haben auch nicht mehr die nötigen Kapazitäten sich der Newcomerförderung so zu widmen, wie sie es vielleicht eigentlich gern möchten. Kleinere Clubs sind teilweise gänzlich von Schließung bedroht. So sind viele experimentellere Veranstaltungen von öffentlicher Förderung abhängig, die doch weder ausreichend noch sicher ist.

Gleichzeitig sehen wir derzeit viele kollektive Veranstaltungsreihen, bei denen Crews gemeinsam mit eingeladenen Artists auftreten. Es gibt Vereine und Strukturen, die abseits des kommerziellen Marktes arbeiten. In verschiedenen, von der Szene betriebenen Radiostationen, gibt es Vernetzung und Präsentation von Musik peer-to-peer. Trotz der genannten Schwierigkeiten findet junge Musikkultur weiterhin statt.

Wie organisiert ihr euch derzeit? Wo und wie seht ihr Möglichkeiten, Strukturen für Live-Auftritte zu schaffen? Haben sich eure Praktiken aufgrund der veränderten Rahmenbedingungen geändert? Was benötigt ihr an Unterstützung, auch von Stellen wie Music Pool Berlin? Wie können wir uns in den Musikszenen besser nachhaltig organisieren und unterstützende Infrastrukturen füreinander schaffen? Lasst uns gemeinsam darüber reden, wie wir die aktuellen Herausforderungen meistern, eine vielfältige Nachwuchs-Szene unterstützen und vielleicht sogar neue Strukturen für die Zukunft entwickeln können!

Gesprächsrunde mit:

Peter Meeuwsen is a Berlin based booking agent. His booking roster includes artists like Lewsberg, Owen Pallett, Parsnip, Cindy Lee, Laundromat Chicks, Michael Rother, Gardens, Codeine, The Klittens, Peel Dream Magazine and The Homesick. Peter runs the Telegram Channel "Berlin Gigs". In a previous life he booked Incubate festival in the Netherlands and worked at the music venues Effenaar in Eindhoven and VERA in Groningen.

Anita Richelli is a booking agent and concert promoter based in Berlin. She works under her own company: brighter agency. Originally from Verona, she started organizing gigs during high school, in her own DIY place called Casetta Lou Fai. Later, she joined Interzona, a cultural association in her hometown, where she was responsible for the music program and communication. In 2012, she spent some time at Rex Cultural Centre in Belgrade, Serbia. In Berlin since 2010, she has worked for different booking agencies, promoters and festivals, beside working as independent promoter. Since 2022 she is in charge of booking for the showcase part of Most Wanted: Music, Berlin's most important music business event.

Marie Westphal ist eine herausragende Persönlichkeit im Musikbereich, die sich durch ihre Leidenschaft für Musik und Innovation auszeichnet. Als erfahrene Schlagzeugerin und engagierte Eventmanagerin verfügt sie über langjährige Erfahrung in der Musikbranche. Ihr Hintergrund als Chemikerin verleiht ihren kreativen Bestrebungen eine einzigartige Perspektive. Als Schlagzeugerin bei 24/7 Diva Heaven nutzt sie ihre musikalischen Talente, um ihr Publikum zu inspirieren und zu erheben. Zudem ist sie Mitgründerin und Projektleiterin des Musikkollektivs GRRRL-NOISY, wodurch sie stets voller innovativer Ideen ist, um ihre Mission voranzutreiben. Ihre persönlichen Erfahrungen haben sie zu einer dynamischen Person geformt, die stets bestrebt ist, Grenzen zu überschreiten und Veränderungen voranzutreiben. Dabei legt sie einen starken Fokus auf Inklusion und Vielfalt. Sie ist entschlossen, die Stimmen von FLINTA (Female, Lesbian, Inter, Non-binary, Trans, Agender) in der Musikindustrie zu stärken und den Status quo herauszufordern.

Yannis Trouinard ist Projektbetreuer für die Clubs LARK & Fitzroy (Preisträger des Tag der Clubkultur 2021, beste Live Musikspielstätte, APPLAUS 2023) und war Booker im Marie-Antoinette (2022). Mitgründer des Musikmagazins The Chop (2016-2020), Stipendiat des Sonderstipendienprogramms der Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa als Kurator (2020), er war auch Veranstalter im Rahmen von Draussenstadt (2021).

Berlin is full of people from all over the world. Creative, productive and innovative people who are bringing a lot of new ideas, potentials and vibes with them.
But before those people can get started succesfully, all of them have to deal with a sometimes quite annoying framework of bureaucratic hurdles, uncertanities about your rights and duties as well as with the lack of contacts, networks and places to go.

So this workshop will help all new-Berliners to get started succesfully, from registering with the Bürgeramt, getting a tax number up to matters of social security etc.

The new Pop-Kultur festival brings established and new artists and protagonists of music culture and music business together - at the end of August in Berlin. The next Music Pool Community evening will take place at the Pop-Kultur festival and provides another opportunity to meet and talk to the local and international festival guests.

For the first part of the evening, or rather afternoon (4:30 - 6 pm) we have invited Glenn Max and Chris Sharp.

Glenn Max is the Artistic Director of Village Underground, a 720-capacity art centre in London and the founder/director of Convergence, a cultural initiative that celebrates the intersection of music, art and technology. Since the late 90's, Glenn Max has worked as concert producer and curator, first in New York, then in London, and has worked with many great artists - from producing Brian Wilson's comeback concerts, to working with David Byrne, Sonic Youth, Brian Eno or John Cale.

Chris Sharp is Contemporary Music Programmer at the Barbican Centre in London. After working with different record companies, Chris moved to the Barbican in 2008 to programme concerts and events. He has expanded the Barbican’s programme to include more electronic and audio-visual performances, worked with prominent figures like Nick Cave, Beck, or Patti Smith, and commissioned and presented music by leading living composers including Steve Reich, Philip Glass, or Terry Riley. He has produced orchestral concerts by artists such as Grizzly Bear (with the London Symphony Orchestra), Aphex Twin (with the Heritage Orchestra), or Chilly Gonzales (with the BBCSO). He has also brought musicians from all over the world to the Barbican.

We'll talk with them about their approaches to curation and concert production, about the special cultural field of commissioned works, and how they go about creating and facilitating conversations and encounters around pop-culture. It will also be interesting to hear their tips for local musicians and concert producers to organize their own shows, concert series and festivals.

At the reception, the second part (6 - 8 pm), you get the chance to mingle with the tutors and participants of Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs (http://www.pop-kultur.berlin/nachwuchs/) and get to know each other over a drink.
