What if life was your main composition—and music its document?

We invite you to join another round of our informal think tank, where we’ll explore the idea that our greatest commitment as musicians is to challenge ourselves to live inspired lives. To step outside the studio and immerse ourselves in the world—whether through travel, collaborating with people from outside the music industry—chefs, scientists, farmers, architects—or engaging in rituals and processes that help us discover more about ourselves and the world around us.

Because great art isn’t just about unlocking emotional landscapes for others—it’s about offering access to new, lived experiences and the potential to see the world in different ways. During our time together, we’ll discuss how approaching music-making with this mindset could recalibrate the cultural metrics of success. We’ll explore how this approach might lead to the creation of new pathways for music distribution and the building of communities outside the exploitative models of tech-driven platforms.

Could it be that blending niche music with other niche experiences—like bespoke perfume-making or farm-to-table food culture—might help us create a more integrated, specific, and sustainable community?

Our new Artist Circle format comes directly from you – the Music Pool Berlin community. You have told us that you want more connections, more mutual support and more open discussions about the realities of the music industry.

We have heard you.
That is why we have created a space for musicians to exchange ideas, share knowledge and support each other. Whether it's about mental health, building a sustainable career, or navigating industry challenges, these meetups are designed to bring you together to learn from each other and grow as a community. Each meetup will focus on different aspects of the musician's journey, depending on what you want to discuss.

Start the year with an open and honest conversation about the realities of being a musician today. Join us as we dive into the challenges you face as an artist: withstanding pressure, staying authentic, and finding balance in an ever-changing industry.

The World is A Prompt is a three-part, hands-on workshop about the art of lyric writing. It was designed around three core pillars:

Inspiration is everywhere and can be accessed at will.
The zone, also known as the flow state, can be induced.
Mindfulness leads to connected living, which translates to embodied art.

All three sessions will take place outdoors, literally using the city as a prompt: the people, the architecture, scents, and sounds. We will work with a mindfulness framework, practice deep listening and observation. The lyric writing exercises will include visual writing, perspective shifting, synesthesia, dream logic, etc. All of the exercises will be done in a stream of consciousness modality. Participants will be encouraged to use the repertoire of exercises to create a sustainable daily creative practice routine.

Day 1: Introduction to stream-of-consciousness writing, directed stream-of-consciousness writing, and using the world around you as a prompt. Different prompted writing exercises: visual writing, emotional research, perspective shifting, dream logic, etc.

Day 2: Introduction to mindfulness as deep listening and deep observation. Writing exercises using the street as a source of prompts (visual and sonic).

Day 3: Deploying the tools collected over the past few weeks to city-prompted writing exercises and collaborative writing. Designing prompts, creating a daily routine.

ABOUT
Łukasz Polowczyk, aka AINT ABOUT ME, is a Berlin-based sound artist, poet, and educator. His work explores the signal distortion that occurs when a poetic frame or intentionality is isolated and then transposed into different expressions and media. In his world, a poem can be a sound-art piece, a spoken word composition backed by an experimental jazz ensemble, a site-specific audio-visual installation, a book, or a series of grainy, abstract photos. Steven Barker (Wire Magazine) called him “an artist who specializes in the most candid forms of gritty self-exploration.” Electronic Sound introduced his work (Noise in the Key of Life) as “provocative and meditative, blurring the line between art and life.” Lukasz is the creator of LET THAT INK FLOW, a course that combines mindfulness practice with stream of consciousness and different creative writing techniques.

Künstler:innenfördeung ist für dich, wie für viele Musiker:innen, noch ein recht unbekanntes Terrain und deshalb lässt du lieber die Finger von einer Antragstellung? Dann bist du bei diesem Workshop richtig.

Denn in diesem Workshop beschäftigen wir uns mit den einzelnen Schritten zur Erstellung eines Förderantrags. Wir entwickeln gemeinsam eine klare Projektidee, formulieren diese antragsgerecht aus, erarbeiten wie man eine Besetzungs- und Aufgabenliste sowie einen detaillierten Finanzplan erstellt. Außerdem analysieren wir die Förderprofile und -kriterien verschiedener Institutionen und welche zusätzlichen Dokumente für die jeweiligen Anträge benötigt werden.

Der Workshop umfasst sowohl theoretische als auch praktische Elemente. Erste Projektsizzen und Antragsentwürfe können gern mitgebracht und im Workshop besprochen und weiterentwickelt werden.

Creating is hunting.

Hunting for sounds, hunting for beats, hunting for inspiration. This workshop is intended for songwriters and artists who wish to explore sampling as a creative tool. In the workshop Asaf Eden will share his unique workflow, developed in over 15 years of working with samples both live and in the studio. Following Marshall McLuhan´s saying that “the medium is the message” we will see how sampling offers an unconventional , often anti-establishment way of creating music that resonates pioneering movements in modern art. We will “hunt” for samples together and create the foundation for our own sample library. This workshop combines theory and hands-on practice. It is recommended to bring a laptop and headphones.

For whom?

The workshop is intended for creative people who wish to explore another avenue of expression and familiarise themselves with sampling, conceptually and technically. There is no need to have experience with sampling or to own a sampler.

By who?

Asaf Eden is the songwriter and producer known as Ryskinder. For more than a decade of musical activity he has been using samplers both live and in the studio.

The initiation meeting will take place on Tuesday 9 April 2024 at 4 pm in the rooms of the Music Pool. The purpose of the meeting is to get to know each other and set initial common networking goals. It will be less about problems and more about building a career together.

Christian Ogrinz, neurodivergent musician and project manager, has been working for many years in medium and large teams and realizing creative projects. He is currently producing a new school rap album with 20 colleagues, some of whom are also neurodivergent. Diese Workshopreihe ist eine tolle Chance innerhalb einer begleiteten 3 wöchigen Reihe, den Weg des kreativen Prozesses in einer Gemeinschaft zu durchlaufen. Du entwickelst innerhalb von 3 Wochen deine Idee, deinen Song, dein Festival, dein DJ Set oder deinen Karriereplan als Künstler:in.
Angefangen von der Ideensammlung, zur Entwicklung und Produktion bis zur Fertigstellung. Das besondere hierbei ist, dass du diesen Weg nicht allein für dich gehst, sondern in einer Gemeinschaft. Du profitierst dabei vor allem durch ein permanentes Feedback und Austausch mit anderen sowie einem inspirierenden Gruppengefühl. An was du genau arbeitest, ob allein oder in einer Gruppe, bleibt dabei dir überlassen. In diesem Mentoring Programm geht es darum, sich aus seiner Comfort Zone zu bewegen und etwas neues auszuprobieren, neue Impulse zu bekommen und deinen Weg des kreativen Prozesses gemeinsam kennenzulernen. Der gesamte Prozess wird in einem ganzheitlichen Ansatz betrachtet und inhaltlich wie auch aus einer psychologischen Sichtweise von Fabian Ristau (psy. Berater und Artist) begleitet. Nebenbei lernst du andere Akteur:innen der Berliner Szene kennen und knüpfst Kontakte für dein Netzwerk. Lass uns anfangen!

Workshop Inhalte:

Teil 1: Grundlagen legen, Ideen sammeln - Aufmerksamkeit, Offenheit, Klarheit und innerer
Antrieb, Ideen auswählen, weiterentwickeln und explorieren.

- Einführung in das Thema "Von 0 auf 100 - Von der Idee zum Ergebnis"
- Input der Schlüsselelemente: Aufmerksamkeit, Offenheit, Klarheit und innerer Antrieb
- Erklärung, wie diese Elemente den kreativen Prozess beeinflussen - besonders in der ersten Phase des Sammelns
- Vorstellung von bewährten Konzepten zur Sammlung von Ideen
- Konzepte einer positiven (gewaltfreien-)Gruppenkommunikation und Ideenaustausch
- Bildung von Kleingruppen
- Individuelle Zielsetzung -> wie setze ich mir nachhaltige Ziele? Was ist der Weg zum Ziel?
- Vorstellung von Tools und Methoden zur Ideenverarbeitung und Weiterentwicklung
- Einführung von Tools zur besseren Strukturierung und Selbstorganisation
- Eigene Verhaltensmuster erkennen und deren Verständnis im kreativen Prozess
- Identifizierung von möglichen Blockaden/Störungen und Strategien zu ihrer Überwindung
- Diskussion über Feedback und wie es die Ideenentwicklung beeinflusst

Ziel bis Teil 2:

1. Möglichst viele Ideen sammeln ohne sie zu bewerten
2. Mit möglichst vielen Ideen experimentieren und daraus die besten Ideen/Idee herausfiltern

Teil 2: Die Finalisierung, Selbstorganisation, Disziplin, Ängste und Perfektion

- Reflexion über die Entwicklungsreise der Ideen
- Einführung in Methoden der Prozess- und Organisationsoptimierung (Selbstmangement,- Disziplin etc.)
- Betonung des Selbstwertgefühls und Umgang mit Ängsten während des Finalisierungsprozesses
- Vorstellung von Konzepten zur Vollendung und Umsetzung der Ideen
- Anregung zur Entwicklung einer individuellen Umsetzungsstrategie
- Deep Learning Process - was ich aus den gemachten Erfahrungen für die Zukunft lernen kann

But what about the music industry? In this engaging session, we will address important questions impacting the music industry. Recent challenges, especially those highlighted during the pandemic, have made it evident that musicians and other participants in the music business often had to face numerous challenges on their own, underscoring the need for change. This, coupled with the ongoing issues related to music streaming and limited alternative options, lead to the following discussion topics:

Could a Strike be Possible in the Music Industry?
Enhancing Working Conditions
How can we build a stronger community within the industry?
Navigating the Streaming Dilemma

ASA is a DJ collective that came together out of a shared passion for music. As part of the Afro-Diaspora & Black community, it is important to us to center and celebrate the diversity of Black, African & Diasporan sounds. Our intention is to create spaces for Black/ BIPoC, Queers & Femmes in the club context. Above all, we consider our collective as a community space where we focus on care, empowerment & resource sharing, and the dancefloor as a place of resistance & creative expression.Guest curator and moderator: Susanna Pavlidis

Susanna is a project and artist manager with a focus on digital marketing under her own brand, SATHENNA, with international experience in PR and marketing, including positions in Mexico, Spain, and Germany. After completing her master's degrees and gaining years of experience in the corporate PR and marketing sector, Susanna decided to change her career path. Her entry into the cultural sector, particularly the music industry, coincided with the onset of the pandemic, which immediately exposed her to major challenges but also helped her recognize the industry's deficiencies. Many questions arose regarding certain processes within the music business, and after hearing "I don't know, it has always been like this" too many times, she decided to take action. Starting with a panel discussion, she aims to ask her questions and provide a platform for the topic, hopefully finding solutions together.
